Indicative Anchoring Position

35° 42.58’S    136° 46.60’E

Note.    Indicative anchoring positions are for reference only and should not be used as waypoints.  The best position for anchoring depends on many factors including vessel draft, tide, and forecast wind.

De Mole River is a secure anchorage with good holding in deep sand. It is very exposed to westerly swell, but an easy and excellent choice in settled SE weather. There is some protection from light SW or NE winds by anchoring very close to the cliffs although wind bullets are common.

Although the cliffs are impressive when cruising west from here, there are no overnight anchorages considered useful for yachts. A day sail towards Cape Borda which is about 10 miles away, and returning before dark, is worthwhile.
