Indicative Anchoring Position
35° 43.1’S 137° 56.7’E
Note. Indicative anchoring positions are for reference only and should not be used as waypoints. The best position for anchoring depends on many factors including vessel draft, tide, and forecast wind.
Penneshaw (Hog Bay) has a lovely beach and excellent holding in sand. It is a secure spot during south westerly winds following the passage of a front. When the wind goes back to the south east it is easy to up-anchor and move around the headland to the Christmas Cove anchorage.
The ferries from Cape Jervis use the wharf for their island operations, and anchoring should not be attempted near these facilities.
