Rapid Bay is a large and open bay, and is the last recognized anchorage before entering Backstairs Passage on the way to Kangaroo Island. There is a decommissioned jetty towards the western end of the bay, and the recommended anchorage is east of this jetty.
The bottom is weed on sand, and the holding is good, but the achorage is occasionally subject to severe gully winds.
Shore access is tricky due to a partly rocky beach and a significant shore break.
