Indicative Anchoring Position

37° 33.6’S   140° 07.2’E

Note.    Indicative anchoring positions are for reference only and should not be used as waypoints.  The best position for anchoring depends on many factors including vessel draft, tide and forecast wind.

Southend is (rather appropriately) at the south end of Rivoli Bay – a wide but narrow bay approximately 30 miles south of Robe. Some hazardous rocks exist in the central part of the bay and also immediately west of the southern headland, but otherwise the bay is deep and clear.

The anchorage is off the township in deep sand with very little weed. Shore access is easy.

A second anchorage may be found in the northern corner of the bay near the town of Beachport. This anchorage is useful in winds from NW – N – NE .
