Indicative Anchoring Position
32° 30.0’S 133° 17.9’E
Note. Indicative anchoring positions are for reference only and should not be used as waypoints. The best position for anchoring depends on many factors including vessel draft, tide, and forecast wind.
St Francis Island is located about 3 miles north of Masillon Island. It is a barren island with a lighthouse on its eastern side and a mostly rocky shore line. However a sandy stretch called Petrel Beach exists in the recommended anchoring area. The bottom is mostly weed on sand, but it is possible to find clear patches to anchor.
The beach is suitable for a dinghy landing if the shore break permits, but note that the shore break rises rather suddenly, and you would not be the first to capsize if it catches you unawares.
